Over 100 years ago Frank Knechtel planted the first lima beans in Carmel Valley. Today his nephew carries on the family tradition, by growing some of the finest beans in California.

Carmel Valley with it's cool ocean breezes and damp Pacific fogs, provides an ideal growing ground.  Even with 100 years of bean knowledge at work Mother Nature plays a very large role in determining the size and appearance of our beans.  Occasionally, she gives us too much or too little rain.  We may then have a limited amount of large beans.  Sizes may vary, but the flavor remains.  Be assured that we sell only the finest quality lima beans.
